Can you imagine what it would be like to go to the cupboard or open the fridge and find it almost totally empty of food? It is difficult for most of us to even imagine. Unfortunately, we have met people who have found themselves in just that situation. The physical, emotional and mental impact is a desperate thing to behold. And these vulnerable people are the ones around the world who are impacted the most in the face of war, climate change or disease. Even in Canada, 1 in 7 people are consider “food insecure”.
Yes, this global problem is a huge issue, but we don’t give up hope. There is something very practical that we can do. Last summer, through CBM’s annual initiative, Active in Mission, people like you helped to demonstrate that we could make a difference by raising over $100,000 to support food programs here in Canada and in 12 countries around the globe. For 2024, Active in Mission is going to target this same issue with the hope of doing even more. This year, we once again want to join others by getting active in a way that will help more people in Canada, in Rwanda and around the world become more food secure.
Together, on August 6 & 7, we are going to hike two of the trails in one of Rwanda’s national parks, Nyungwe Forest. This rainforest is home to 345 bird species and 85 mammal species (including 13 different primates). The reason these creatures thrive in that environment is because it is protected in a way that allows them to be “food secure”. Therefore, it seems to be a good place for us to be raising support and awareness for the efforts of CBM to provide “food security” for many people around the world.
Funds raised will support food programs in Thailand, India, the Philippines, DR Congo, South Sudan, El Salvador, Kenya, Lebanon, Pakistan, Ukraine, Canada as well as right here in Rwanda.
Will you Get Active with us towards our goal? Our personal goal is $3000, while CBM's overall goal for Active in Mission is $100,000.
